LA RECENSIONE

Listen to Laugh

It was the early '90s when Pasquale Lillo Petrolo and Claudio Gregori Greg, just fired from their job as cartoonists, together with Paolo Di Orazio (a third newly-fired employee of the same bankrupt publishing house), founded 'Latte e I Suoi Derivati'.

The group obviously has its strength in the lyrics, with surreal and irreverent humor, accompanied by unexpected musical ability.

The album in question, "22 Celebri Motivi... Per Sognare" is from 1996 and offers us some of the most famous and irresistible songs of the Roman group. First among them all is "Otto Il Passerotto", where daddy 'Greg' sings a little fairy tale to the little son 'Lillo', which tries the seemingly gentle father’s patience to the point that he bursts into a series of colorful and very vulgar insults. Spectacular.

In "Ho Scritto Una Canzone Per Te" the duo interprets the difficult relationship between a songwriter (Greg) and a deaf woman (Lillo) who can't hear the love song dedicated to her by her boyfriend. Also wonderful are "Neurodisney", "Ginoska", "Sono Triste", "Subliminaki" and many more.

Also included in the track-list is perhaps the track with the longest title in the world: "L'altra Mattina Alla Fermata del Tram, Mi Sono Accorto Di Non Avere Il Portafoglio. Allora Sono Tornato A Casa ed Ho Trovato Mia Moglie A Letto Con Nando, Proprietario Della Trattoria 'Dar Mignottone', Noto Per La Sua Interpretazione di 'Only You' Eseguita Ruttando. Dopo Essermi Incazzato, Mi Sono Accorto Che Avevo La Tasca Tagliata E Quindi Ho Capito Che Il Portafoglio Me L'Avevano Rubato Alla Fermata Del Tram (Che Nel Frattempo Era Già Passato)"

A very valid Italian demential group, different from the Italian "Skiantos" and "Elio e Le Storie Tese", especially compared to the latter, less musical and more inclined to cabaret comedy.

The complete group:

  • Greg: guitar and vocals
  • Lillo: vocals
  • Paolo Di Orazio: drums
  • Fabio "The Fabolous" Taddeo: guitar
  • Ingo: bass

Lillo & Greg make us laugh because they are brilliant and solve nothing with trivial tricks.

You can be sure you won’t feel like you’ve wasted that hour and nine minutes.
