Good evening, today I have nothing to do, so I'll take a few minutes to talk to you about this record, or rather, this cassette.

"Pocketwatch" is an album by that genius Dave Grohl, written and played while he was still banging the drums for the legendary Nirvana. Grohl is a cool guy, has a splendid mane, has written pages of rock history, drinks, dances, sings, and screws.

Even though this is effectively a solo album, Grohl called himself "Late!" just for the fun of coming on stage and saying, "Sorry, we're late!". Yes, because our guy, besides having a good head, also knows how to take the piss out of himself, something many should learn... oh well. Anyway, from "Late" to the White Rabbit is a short step, so the title is exactly the most famous object of that fantastic creature. Yellow is a happy choice, and it makes me want to screw Dave.

As mentioned, apart from a guy who appears on the second track, here Grohl, as in the first Foo Fighters album, is completely on his own, and offers us ten beautiful songs, one after another. "Friend of a Friend" will be reworked by the Foos and it is a splendid ballad dedicated to the greatest artist of the 90s, Kurt Cobain, while he was still alive. Read the lyrics, they give you goosebumps. "Marigold" is another sweet and delicate piece, great to play in the car before making love under the Moon, while "Hell’s Garden" and "Winnebago" are two ticking time bombs that have become some of my personal favorites. Have you ever seen the video of "Winnebago" performed at Brixton in London? If you missed it, go watch it, and you’ll see it’s pointless to cry yourself to sleep; out there, there are still some cool guys who understand something of the world... "Milk," the last song, reaffirms the post-grunge ferments that were already flickering in good old Dave Grohl’s head. A track based on the tension-release principle, which is the cornerstone of all art. Steve Copeland taught me that, another real badass.

Naturally, in some respects, this is still an immature effort, the story about Skeeter Thompson is just bullshit, but if you don’t know it, give it a chance, you won’t regret it! And with this, I conclude my effort, penned while listening to “Poncier” by Chris Cornell, because Chris understood Dave, Chris was like Dave... a COOL GUY...
