Ûlairi are an international black metal band with members already quite experienced in the underground scene, hailing from Norway, Spain, and the United States. Among them, on vocals, is a semi-unknown but interesting character: the Spaniard Sanguinous Moth, whom I follow closely because of the excellent works released with one of his projects, Vampyric Winter.

Following a solid debut released in 2024, the self-titled "Ûlairi", the three blacksters return independently to the scene in these early days of October 2025 with their second full-length: "Winter Infernal".

As can easily be guessed from the cover itself, as well as from the title, we are faced with an album completely devoted to the classic lo-fi sound of early '90s Norway. The main influence can mostly be traced to Immortal's "Pure Holocaust" (1993) and "Battles in the North" (1995), over which looms the dark shadow of early Darkthrone.

The tremolos are sharp and cutting like chipped ice stalactites; the saturated sounds, together with the earthquake of blast beats, simulate apocalyptic snowstorms, where a harrowing scream leads the listener into the depths of that black abyss in which death, beyond being the ultimate horizon of life, becomes immanently life in its entirety.

Still... Black Fucking Metal.
