Hard technological exterior. A relentless rhythm. The old masters are referenced, from '80s synth pop to Kraftwerk, but with class and elegance.
Ladytron favor a very cold type of electronic music, even more so in this second work following the brilliant "604".
The tendencies towards obsessive, very hard rhythms are intensified. However, the appeal of the offering is guaranteed by the sense of melody and irony, two elements that mitigate the more extreme tendencies of their music.
The voice sings with a detached tone, indifferent airs. Melodies that slip into the mind, hummable.
Technology accepts and incorporates the human element.
Thus, a soul emerges. It is infused, endowed with inner beauty, slowly infiltrating but taking its place, immovable. Sparse, simple, effective words: "They only want you when you're 17 when you're 21 you're no fun" (from "Seventeen"). Irony, a playful element that does no harm.
Onwards. The synthetic beats advance. They slow down. They pick up again. They become richer. Again, short, evocative phrases: "Think, everyone that you kiss, do they cease to exist when you stop being missed?" (from "Cease 2 xist").
It's a sound that can be listened to anywhere while always retaining a pronounced "dance" spirit. The various elements blend effortlessly, and the resulting product is sharp, precise, aromatic.
Do not be afraid... There is a heart beating beneath the hard shell covering it. The machines are still at the service of man.
