I have appreciated La Crus since their first self-titled album, which included, among others, a beautiful version of "Il vino" by Piero Ciampi.
Therefore, I was looking forward to the release of their new album, but this time the wait was poorly rewarded. Indeed, despite all my efforts, I did not like this album. I had an unpleasant feeling from the first listen, but, to avoid hasty judgments, I suspended my judgment for some time.
In fact, first impressions do not always hold up in subsequent listens.
In this case, however, this attempt was not successful. I simply cannot appreciate the group's good intentions, foremost among them being the use of complex and interesting lyrics. Indeed, the idea of bringing together music and literature is not bad, using texts from writer Marco Lodoli (La giacca nuova) and poet Mariangela Gualtieri (La nevrosi).
Equally interesting is the use of electronics, perhaps more pronounced than in the past, and certainly noteworthy is the duet of Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi with Cristina Donà (Ad occhi chiusi).
Nevertheless, it is the whole album that does not convince me, that does not work. The project seems too calculated, soulless, cold, artificial to me. This sometimes translates into flatness and monotony. The introspection and intimacy, both literary and musical, turn into exclusion toward the listener.
In summary, a CD to forget.
