It may not shine for melodic inventiveness or originality, but La Casa al Mare for this EP brings out the right and impeccable sound.
The vocals go like this: mystified and incomprehensible, evanescent. The guitars go like this: fuzz at full blast, reversals, reverbs, tremors, overdubs, few touches, and let the sustain do its thing, the wave is long and everything mixes. The rhythm section goes like this: simple and all the way back. The most orthodox shoegaze, in short, on the line that passes from the most obvious Masters of everything, for the Lilys, to the more recent Stargazer Lilies: the fundamentalist genre. What varies and distinguishes from the average is the delicate acoustic Tonight Or Never, with slowdive melodic reminiscences and calm and new age singing. It grows slowly up to the bass, which enters and perfects towards the end. It's not Sometimes but it's a pleasure to listen to. I Don't Want To is the ABC: it's also the track that reminds me most of the Swirlies absolutely, right in the scene; and that's a great thing because the Swirlies should be held in high regard by anyone. M is static, a drone of rich sounds for audiophiles from hairdryers: epos for narcoleptics and tranquil people. At All is an indie with a taste even Slumberland, sharp and scratching with usual sweetness and melancholies in the style of Rocketship and the falsettos. Stuff that is sure to be enjoyable live. And all this noise is produced by three.
The scene has nothing better to offer, currently. I'm thrilled and I think that all in all we are at the state of the art. Waiting, perhaps, for future contaminations and new ideas.
