Kyuss, inventors of "Stoner Rock," are the expression of the frustrations and tensions accumulated by the youth in the usual and often-mentioned (by me!) town "Palm Desert", hidden in the southern California desert.
What Kyuss delivers is a relentless massacre, without mercy: the stormy and relentless rhythm of drummer Brant Bjork, the scorching steel riffs unleashed by Josh Homme (QOTSA), the atomic thrusts of Nick Oliveri's bass (QOTSA), the vibrant and cannibalistic singing of John Garcia (Hermano), compose one of the most powerful sonic conglomerates ever.
For those who don't know, three-quarters of Kyuss were the origins of the current QOTSA.
Blues For The Red Sun is their third work, after the elusive "Sons of Kyuss" and "Wretch," and it is considered one of the masterpieces of stoner rock.
From the first beats of "Thumb," the listener is faced with an explosion of "deafening," hypnotic, at times unpleasant sounds but, at the same time, imbued with a charge that only they can express.
"Green Machine," "Molten Universe," "50 Million Year Trip," are tracks endowed with a terrifying implosion force, with their tribal crescendos; from "Thong Song" to "Writhe," it feels like being catapulted into an ocean of molten lava with a backdrop of gloomy roars and apocalyptic blues.
The rest of the album is a frenzied succession of psychedelic ballads that develop into the driving rhythm of "Mondo Generator," in my opinion, the most monstrous track of the album.
In conclusion, a very difficult work to appreciate and to listen to for those who do not know the true and raw Stoner, but a masterpiece for those who, like me, appreciate its power.
P.S. Not recommended in particular psychophysical conditions...
