The year was 2003, yes exactly 10 years ago from this review; it was the year when Madonna, Britney & Christina Aguilera kissed on the mouth at the Video Music Awards, just to name one. Fortunately, besides this scandal, 2003 is also remembered for the musical change of direction of Kylie Minogue who, right after the worldwide success of "Fever", was trying to replicate the success with what was then the new album "Body Language". All of this was preceded by that single that shocked the whole world, titled "Slow".
"Slow" was the first single from a project that focused entirely on Kylie’s beauty, the image (inspired by Brigitte Bardot or Marilyn Monroe) and the fashion of pin-up divas from the late '70s; this change of direction was not only stylistic but also musical, as after two dance albums ("Light Years" & "Fever") Kylie emerged with this electro pop with some R&B atmospheres and elegant retro blends.
But let's return to "Slow". Before its release, everyone expected another "Can't Get You Out of My Head", a new club hit; in many cases, it succeeded. Although it wasn’t a very danceable tune, it became first a success on radios worldwide, and then by the end of the year, it became number 1 in the UK and Europe, even overshadowing the duet between Madonna & Britney "Me Against the Music". I remember Madonna saying in an interview: "compliments to Kylie Minogue for her 'Slow'".
The video for this single was shot in Spain, in Barcelona, within the structures that hosted the Olympic Games.
The entire video takes place on the edges of a pool with men and women in swimsuits lying on towels next to Kylie, all with delicate, sensual and very provocative movements, obviously slowly, slowwwwwwwww.......
Thanks to "Slow", in 2003 Kylie Minogue won her first Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording! Unfortunately, the album didn’t sell much and shortly after a new Greatest Hits had to be released, but in 2003 we all know that the number 1 was still Kylie!
Tracklist and Lyrics
01 Slow (03:15)
Knew you'd be here tonight
So I put my best dress on
Boy I was so right
Our eyes connected
Now nothin's how it used to be
No second guesses
Trackin' on this feelin'
Pull focus close up you and me
Nobody's leavin'
Got me affected spun me 180 degrees
So electric
Chorus:
Slow down and dance with me, yeah
Slow
Skip a beat and move with my body, yeah
Slow
Come on and dance with me, yeah
Slow
Skip a beat and move with my body, yeah
Slow
Dont wanna rush it
Let the rhythmn pull you in
This will touch it
You know what Im sayin'
And I haven't said a thing
Keep the record playin
Chorus
Ohh
Read my body language
Take it down, down
Chorus
02 Sweet Music (04:10)
Check out this groove are you walking on air,
Going into a new dimension yeah,
So put your vibes on my beat
and we'll lay it down like that,
Slap the high hat in,
put the fairlight on the track
And we can get,
Crazy like that, Feel it like that,
Move it like that, Drop it like that,
Rocking the track, I'm looking for that new sensation,
Woohoo!!
I think we're onto something, Your taste it mirrors mine,
So hot and in the moment, Lets beat this demo right,
Or I might just lose it, When we make sweet music
No feather bed, no exotic affair, yeah,
Got samples and scratches lets do it right here,
Cause every heart beat babe is the sound track to your life,
And every mad effect must be sent to get me high
And we can get,
Crazy like that, Feel it like that,
Move it like that, Drop it like that,
Rocking the track, I'm looking for that new sensation,
Woohoo!!
I think we're onto something, Your taste it mirrors mine,
So hot and in the moment, Lets beat this demo right,
Or I might just lose it, When we make sweet music
