Gyeon-woo is an unlucky Korean student who can't manage to pick up a girl (as if he were 'the boy next door'), and refuses to meet the one suggested by his aunt. One day, however, on the subway, he meets a completely drunk girl who, after vomiting on a passenger, will call Gyeon-woo darling, who will feel obliged to take her to a hotel. This meeting will result in an endless sequence of misadventures and misunderstandings that will push the two to get to know each other intimately...

My Sassy Girl is one of the most successful romantic comedies in Korean cinema. Its success has not gone unnoticed beyond Korean borders, winning awards around the world and resulting in two remakes in America and India. This success is certainly deserved!
The screenplay and story aren't exactly the film's strongest points, which instead relies almost exclusively on the protagonists, so extreme and poles apart (the girl with an overpowering personality with the grace of an obese rhinoceros, while the boy is a total doormat), giving rise to wonderful situations... There are scenes that border on the ridiculous, alternating with very romantic ones, all in an almost perfect mix. I say almost because maybe two hours is a bit much, and watching the poor protagonist getting slapped continuously might weigh heavily on us, accustomed to ultramodern American films chopped with an ax!

Among the funny scenes to remember, besides the first meeting with the girl on the subway, definitely worth mentioning is the amusement park scene, where unexpected situations and hilarious dialogues occur. A film that Americans can only dream about, with their simplistic, childish scripts!
