Honestly, it is difficult for me to think of a debut album like this, with such a mature, warm, and intense sound.
Because 'Flight Of The Flynns' offers us a deep and emotional pop, at times psychedelic with subtly jazzy shades, composed of twelve songs always connected to each other, which rush by like the wind, forming a single magnificent melancholic project of rare sweetness. The soft harmonica in "All Together", the serene crescendo of "The Swell", the purity of the piano in "Oh Noble Eric", the poignant cello in "Das Ollec", accompanied by a "York-esque" voice, are only examples of great class that leave the right mark.
Who are the Kunek?
An inspired group of timeless multi-instrumentalists, capable of making the listener dream on floating Floydian architectures, where the imprint of other bands is palpable, such as the anxieties of Radiohead and the ethereal moments à la Sigur Rós.
But here lies the greatest virtue of this sextet from a small town in Oklahoma: because while not inventing anything new, they are not clones of anyone, and this is thanks to a musical interpretation of the highest level, finding the right space for each instrument, in a blend of melodic lines that are never artificial or over the top, but certainly captivating and effective, thus managing, with extreme simplicity and naturalness, to touch the soul deeply and providing a complete sense of relaxation. Sorry if that's not enough.
What else is there to say? That given the scribe's guilty delay in listening, the personal 2006 playlist should be updated.
Best regards,
Addison.
