Perhaps some might want to wait to see the album in stores, if all goes well, next August 4th, to believe that Kraftwerk has released an album... but Kraftwerk... oh my... it has been 16 years since they have made themselves heard, excluding the Expo 2000 interlude and the remix album...
It is pointless, I hope, to reiterate that without Kraftwerk this website wouldn't exist and that first there was Elvis, then the Beatles, after Kraftwerk... then no one else! OK, maybe that's excessive but you get the point.
Ralph, Florian, Fritz, and Henning have produced the album that, for pure electronic music lovers, is simply A MASTERPIECE.
"Tour de France" is a name many have already heard. Not so much because this year celebrates the centenary of the popular cycling race, but because in 1983 Kraftwerk released the single, Tour de France that was supposed to pave the way for the Technopop album, which was never released and mysteriously vanished, leaving only a draft of the album cover.
Twenty years after that missed album, Kraftwerk tries again by reintroducing in various ways that single, but at the same time adding some astonishing new tracks. There's no point in highlighting how for Kraftwerk, the bicycle is not only a passion but a collectible cult.
And, for the more perceptive, certain sounds in the album come from samples of bicycle noises... I was told, I think it would be impossible for an average person to realize it... they are so well embedded in the musical context that they go unnoticed.
It's true, one cannot always be innovative, no matter what... Kraftwerk made history in the '70s and it's not expected that they do it again in 2003... but the feeling, listening to this album, is that... in the '70s there were cars, true... but today there's ABS, satellite navigation, airbags, rearview cameras... yeah well... the car is still the same but how much perfection and technology has been added!
Worth mentioning, AERO DYNAMIK. Only for purists. For everyone else, there's Eiffel 65 :-)

From man to automaton. How can an automaton rediscover itself as human (discover it was only pretending)?
By making panting, heartbeat, sweat on the forehead, a repetition.
