THE REVIEW

Another group, another novelty from cold Europe. Again, we are talking about Swedes, specifically from Uppsala but residing in Stockholm. The genre of this album is undefined: dance, chill-out, jazz mostly. And this is precisely the genre of Koop. (yes exactly with the period! if they put it there, there must be a reason...), in their second work, after the debut album "Sons Of Koop" (1997), released in times still premature for an explosion; times when St.Germain was not yet known... And indeed they take much inspiration from Ludovic Navarre; Magnus Zingmark and Oscar Simonsson can be defined as composer-arranger-producers, who make modern-jazz their trademark. Their style is so clean and unique that they almost risk overshadowing the French DJ: they almost risk creating a new musical trend, almost like the Röyksopp. Perhaps it is cold Europe itself that inspires good music. "Walz For Koop," like all respectable albums, features numerous collaborations: Terry Callier, vocal in "In A Heartbeat," Cecilia Stalin vocal in "Waltz For koop," the opening track of the album, a mix of electronics and modern jazz, up to Yukimi Nagano, vocal in the closing track "Bright Nights." "Baby" and "Summer Sun" are noteworthy. In short, the right mix of electronics and jazz that will make Koop widely talked about.

Hey, Summer Sun
You always smile
Clouds in the sky
You never mind
Happy or sad
You always shine
Never before
I've met your kind

Love had never got a hold on me
Until you stepped out of a dream
My life once a misery
Now your love has set me free

Hey, Summer Sun
Your love's divine
Never before I've met your kind
And now you're mine

Hey, Summer Sun
You always smile
Clouds in the sky
You never mind
Happy or sad
You always shine
Never before
I've met your kind

Love had never got a hold on me
Until you stepped out of a dream
My life once a misery
Now your love has set me free
