THE REVIEW

Naked female bodies emerge from the darkness on the cover of this album by the ethereal Klaus Schulze. The second chapter inspired by carnal love, "Body Love vol. 2" consists of tracks composed for Lasse Braun's film but not included in the final soundtrack. The practical function of this music, that of cinematic use, thus fades, leaving behind a complete work by the German musician, his ninth studio album, released in December 1977.

In the opening, a very long piece, "Nowhere - Now Here", 29 minutes to be savored in one breath. A slow introduction, followed by a melodic line gradually soaring above a deep sound and surrounding electronic dust; after six minutes, Harald Grosskopf's drums (whose collaboration Schulze availed himself of during those years) comes in to mark the tempo and lend more liveliness to the track until, about halfway through this auditory odyssey, there is an abrupt change in tempo, which becomes faster, and the music, in turn, more dense and animated, until the conclusion. Yet, throughout, Schulze never stops weaving his melodies with only slightly different timbres, so that these 29 minutes, despite being articulated in the three episodes described, could be considered a single solo extended ad libitum.

The following "Stardancer II", shorter (14 minutes), is a version of the track already featured in the first "Body Love": the sound effects at the beginning are suggestive, simple touches on the drums (hi-hat, cymbals, snare) multiplied by the echo, then giving way to the tense, gritty, and rhythmic music, the result of perfect harmony between Schulze and Grosskopf.

So far more akin to a sort of psychedelic rock than to an electronic music album, the work decisively veers towards more kosmische atmospheres with the concluding "Moogetique", 13 minutes of pure atmosphere, without solos or drums, where clear sound layers overlap one another in slow evolution. Perhaps suggesting a surrender to the dimension of oblivion after the frenetic and intense moments dedicated to physical love.
