These are times of total homogenization, where reality TV deludes young people eager to join the system that counts, where politics is now reduced to TV slogans, where following the crowd has become the best way not to get hurt too much and to live sheltered from unexpected blows to the head. Tough times, yes, but made lighter by a total apathy of thought, where not thinking lightens life and its problems, where the country's issues are swept under a rug that will eventually take flight, releasing the stench of rot.
This seems to be where the Kitsch, a band from Como, are coming from with their debut album. "Mentre tutto collassa" is a small concept that puts all the ugliness and anomalies that a normal thinking man can find in a mass of non-thinking men to the forefront. With the help and production of Diego Galeri (drummer of Miura and ex-Timoria), the Kitsch in ten songs unveil and explicitly denounce all this without beating around the bush.
From the more energetic rock of the final track "Mani in tasca", which describes a world sent into collapse by human greed, to the bitter tranquility of "Alibi di vetro". In between are songs that can be categorized within Italian alternative rock with touches of melody, with Attilio Kitsch's distinctive voice proclaiming uncomfortable lyrics. From the awareness of the new generation's defeat in "La mia generazione" to the looming morbidity towards everything that should cause dismay but instead turns into a media spectacle in "Cluedo". From the musical urgency of "L'era dell'immagine" to the first single "Poetimprenditori", against the disposable music of these modern times.
This work already demonstrates character and a desire to fight against a system increasingly less dedicated to meritocracy. Also worth mentioning is the presence of Andrea Rovacchi's keyboards from Julie's Haircut in some tracks and certainly to welcome this formation, born only four years ago, but already with very clear ideas. Of course, it will be difficult to emerge in Italy with this music, but it seems that Kitsch enjoy fighting.
