THE REVIEW

Dear DeBaser people, we are gathered here for the revenge of a band that suffered too much in the 80s and that finally, in 1992, has the courage to take revenge after so many beatings and which are truly too many (see albums like "Asylum", "Hot in the Shade" or "Animalize").

1992: Eric Carr, the glorious drummer, dies following cancer, the Kiss waver, they are about to disband but had already recorded two songs for a well-known record label that had already made various agreements with Kiss. Kiss were really in a mess, they had gone from stars to stables in short they no longer had a valid drummer like the legendary Eric. But here comes one of the best-known names in 80s Metal to the aid of Kiss: Alice Cooper "offers" his drummer to Kiss to be able to finish recording the album. Eric Singer, a name already known to Paul Stanley for having played on a tour with him, was the new drummer of Kiss. An album was being prepared that would not disappoint expectations but would leave much bitterness for the premature death of Eric Carr.

THE REVENGE OF PAUL, GENE, BRUCE, AND ERIC BEGINS!

The four are not only thirsty for blood but from a continuous obsession, the revenge from dark and gloomy years such as the '80s.

"Revenge"

The album not only starts well but kicks off with an impressive force, Kiss seem rejuvenated by twenty years, the powerful riffs attack the first track of the album "Unholy" which, from the dark and gloomy title, suggests how the riffs might be. The track sung by the Demon is performed impeccably but above all, the figure of Bruce Kulick should be noted, who in this song, with his beautiful guitar solo, proves clearly: Kiss are back but they don't do it for fun, nor for jokes, nor for money, they do it because they are Kiss. The second song is the perfect follow-up to a track like "Unholy", the song is called "Take it off", like all Kiss songs that talk about love, Paul's voice is always present and always in the foreground. A semi-distorted guitar arpeggio, a drum that beats the time with a 4/4 marked by a ride but above all a bass that takes very high notes, do not let this song go unnoticed.

Kulick and Stanley together wrote the third track: "Tough love", sung by the Starchild, the song is linear and with riffs typical of the Kiss of the '90s which are heard perfectly. "Tough love" is the perfect track as a follow-up to then move on to a filler track but nevertheless not to be discarded: "Spit", is sung by the Demon and appears to be an old school rock'n'roll track which, however, does not turn out to be a masterpiece. Nonetheless, it must be admitted that the song is nice and that Kiss have done an excellent job up to this point. In this album, "Revenge", the most beautiful song of Kiss is present, more beautiful than "Forever", more beautiful than that much-loved track called "I was made for lovin' you", the song in question is "God gave rock 'n' roll to you II". The last song written and recorded with Eric Carr, what to say, it is a song that excites everyone and especially moves whoever hears it because such songs are written only once and Kiss, it is now useless to deny it, are good at this. In the sixth song, the Demon starts to the rescue with one of the most famous tracks of "Revenge", after "God gave rock'n'roll to you II" obviously, the song in question is "Domino". If at the beginning it might seem like a calm track, the song in itself is not at all, indeed Eric Singer's drums "come out of anonymity to speak out loud", and here Eric demonstrates all his technique and versatility. The next song "Heart of chrome", was written by someone who knows Kiss well, Vinnie Vincent, with the help of Paul Stanley and the inescapable Bob Ezrin, writes this track with very powerful riffs. Nothing special but not to throw away because each track is precious. Another filler track is "You shalt not", the next song, sung by the Demon. Despite being a filler and unknown to anyone, I must say it is a well-done and well-crafted track.

"Every time I look at you" is the next track, an acoustic and romantic track to break the hardness of the other songs is ideal and the four know it well, so they compose this song that can be listened to by everyone and that is simply beautiful. And here's another song that is completely anonymous "Paralyzed", despite this, it is a mediocre track with powerful and acceptable riffs, sung by the Demon and written by him along with the indomitable Bob Ezrin. The penultimate track is "I Just wanna", a very famous song written by Paul&Vinnie that will tour the world, the riffs in this song have evidently softened but the glam vein of the four is not lacking and Eric Singer's drums cadence an increasingly precise and obsessive 4/4 (in a good sense). The last track for me is really too difficult to review but I will try anyway. The song that closes this "Revenge" is "Carr jam 1981" which, in my opinion, is a pathetic attempt by Kiss to keep the memory of Eric Carr alive. The song is indeed instrumental and is practically a drum solo, however, Eric Carr wrote numerous songs that the "heads" Paul&Gene never wanted to publish, now they come out publishing one found on a dusty shelf. Criticisms aside, the song is well-made and worthy of being placed under the name of Kiss.

Eric is dead, a new era opens before Kiss, a new era, a new rebirth, and a new period of prosperity after years and years of criticism. Welcome back, masked brothers.

"Revenge is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful albums by Kiss."

"It was hard, but for all the devils, it was worth it. It made us realize how many mistakes we’ve made in the last ten years..." (Gene Simmons)

This phantom group of colorful pretend-masked entertainers have truly dug their own grave with this album.

Revenge is a musical toy full of gadgets and muscles devoid of social or existential connotations.
