The Verona Arena will host the four American musicians in the last bit of spring 2015. In fact, the Kiss have planned to celebrate their forty-year career in Italy, at the Verona Arena. Just about a year ago, more or less, it was April, the American band associated with almost circus-like hard rock received an important recognition: the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame honored them with four wax statues. Not bad, after all, they will be in the company of Elvis Presley who, if not hard rock, certainly served as an incunabulum for the evolution of that type of rock that the Kiss represent.
Staying in 2014, their very first resident show is also worth recalling. This was held in Sin City; more specifically at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas. Additionally, in June, the four Kiss will present on the Arena stage a repertoire of songs that will mostly draw from their anthology “Kiss 40”, released in May of last year. This album, it is worth remembering, consists of tracks extracted from the group's albums and the individual albums of the four musicians: one track per album.
The Kiss were born in 1973. The bassist Gene Simmons, perhaps together with Paul Stanley (guitar and vocals), are the true souls of the band, was so passionate about the Beatles adventure that he wanted with all his heart to retrace its path. Obviously, as a particularly brilliant individual, he was not interested in parodying the four Fab Four. Simmons has often stated that “You can easily copy someone, but then you must carry out your project in an original way without being a slavish imitator.” Indeed, despite the input coming from the Beatles and other rock bands, no one could honestly accuse the Kiss of being a copy of someone. Even less so of the four from Michelle and other songs that will remain in the music history of the ‘900s: there is a wide gap between the Kiss and the Beatles. Just as the gloomy aspect boasted by the American band can in no way have a counterpart in the college look that John Lennon and his companions presented during their concerts. Of course, it is not only a matter of looks: Lennon – as much as he was polite in his little suit and beat tie with boots – was a true revolutionary. Sure, Gene Simmons is no softie either. However, in his case, and as imposing as he is even without the vampire/Godzilla makeup, his vision of life is more individual: “Do you want to have fun, get drunk, and act weird? Fine, find yourself a job, earn money and at the end of the week do all this without disturbing others. Otherwise, you are a failure and a freeloader living off others!” This is the harsh philosophy of the bassist of the Kiss. For those who think rock is just protest, Gene’s words seem shocking and... not very rock. Instead, precisely because of this view of life, on several occasions, the other two historic Kiss members – Peter Criss and Ace Frehley – have been dismissed and replaced: “When you are sorted out, you can come back, not before.” Word of Gene.
The event called “40th Anniversary Tour” will be held by Kiss at the Arena di Verona on Thursday, 11 June 2015. The tour will arrive in Italy coming from America, Asia, South America, and Australia. A spectacular tour featuring musicians who have recorded 44 albums with consequent 28 gold records in the USA. They have sold 100 million copies of their records, not to mention the whole legend that has developed around their figures/comic which has also created the phenomenon of Kiss-branded gadgets!
