THE REVIEW

Kiss - Dynasty (1979)

I was seventeen, you were just a dreamI was mesmerized... "Put on Kiss, put on Kisssss come on..."

They howled like that, a thousand records ago, some girls from my class, Eleonora S. and Stefania G. begging the house d.j. to dance one more time to the disco-rock hit "I was made for lovin' you". Already during the summer by the sea, there were rumors that the new Kiss album – which had yet to arrive – was a stunner... There was still the DC, but the PSI was advancing, dad had a Fiat 128, there were still high-cut swimsuits, frisbees, skateboards, while from the jukebox blared Comprami by Viola Valentino. The aforementioned maidens were the girlfriends of two rockers, Fabio B. and Enrico O., who left us a few years later, rest his soul – of our glorious III E, who played pretty well for those times. They were the culprits who introduced us to Kiss... and other trashy big-hairs, the self-sufficient Cugini di Campagna.

I, who already had a fair imagination then, couldn't get out of my mind the incredible resemblance (Plutarch-Parallel Lives!) between Paul Stanley and Toto Cutugno who sang Voglio l'animaaaaa.. same shampoos, same curls, determined jaw and deep voice with a high testosterone rate... Paul without makeup is identical to Toto, try it to believe it! What glittering times guys, how much nostalgia I feel when I listen to this monumental album: "Besides I was made, 2,000 Man is almost punkish and absolutely energetic, and I who played it in the rehearsal room swear that Ace sings it insanely high, it's not easy to do; and then all the heart dives into memories, with "Sure Know Something" ah that bass in the video, then smoothly follows "Dirty Livin", "Magic Touch"-so glammy! and above all still the most fitting pieces those of Space Ace, "Hard Times" and "Save Your Love".

Despite the de-tractors, it's a great album, well produced -Poncia- What else to say... Vico was right, with the theory of historical cycles and recycles: last week I had to dress up as Peter Criss for X Factor where, with the cover band "Dressed to Kiss" we sang a cappella I was made for lovin' you. Morgan had a great time, Ventura almost came... to us, and Maionchi was stunned.

For some strange reason, Kiss thought of blending their music with a hint of disco-music and the result was the widespread play of the first two singles more in the discotheques than on the radio.

Half the album is good... half isn’t.

"I Was Made For Lovin’ You" is a hit, catchy and memorable though more commercial than rock.

Don’t expect to find a masterpiece by Kiss or in rock when purchasing this album.
