Tokyo‑based psychedelic rock collective formed around 2012, noted for blending acid folk, krautrock/motorik elements, sitar and electroacoustic textures; received international attention through releases reviewed on DeBaser.

Started playing publicly in Tokyo circa 2012. House in the Tall Grass (2016) increased their international profile. Reviews note recording of House in the Tall Grass at Tsubame Studio and mixing/mastering/production by Yui Kimijima (mentioned in DeBaser review). Reviewed albums include Forest Of Lost Children, Stone Garden (EP), Masana Temples and Kumoyo Island (described as a swan song in DeBaser reviews).

DeBaser reviews praise Kikagaku Moyo's blend of psychedelic rock, kraut and folk textures. Albums show progression from hypnotic electroacoustic passages to more structured psych‑prog. Kumoyo Island is presented as a festive swan song. Overall reception across reviews is favorable.

For:Fans of psychedelic rock, krautrock, psych‑folk and experimental music; listeners interested in the Japanese psych scene.

In conclusion, a great album and band, continuing the excellent psychedelic tradition of the Land of the Rising Sun, and among the best psychedelic albums of 2018 (alongside their fellow countrymen Minami Deutsch).

Kumoyo Island is festive, petulant, persistent, evasive, dreamlike, and ultimately a true concentration of fun, full of Asian grooves and flaming, distorted, and overwhelming elements in the first half of Cardboard Pile, cleverly experimental cop-funk like Dancing Blue and Monaka, and exotic wave-shaped kosmische-tinged excursions with their cover of Meu Mar by bossa nova hero Erasmos Carlos.
