Kid Creole and the Coconuts

Musical Group or Musician

Kid Creole and the Coconuts is an American music group led by August Darnell (stage name Kid Creole). Emerging from Darnell's earlier work with Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band, the group became known in the 1980s for blending Latin, disco, funk and pop with ironic, theatrical lyrics and stagecraft.

August Darnell helped form Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band in 1976 (with Cory Daye), where he played bass and wrote songs. In the eighties he achieved fame as Kid Creole, fronting the Coconuts; the review highlights the song 'My Male Curiosity', which appears in the 1984 film Against All Odds and is accompanied by an official video incorporated into the film.
