Keri Hilson must be quite confident to decide to call her debut album "In A Perfect World..." (In Un Mondo Perfetto...), but we'll see that even though this album is not perfect, it is certainly a work that allows Keri to walk around with her head held high.
Who is Keri Hilson? The name sounds familiar, doesn't it? This girl has written pieces for many people (Britney Spears, The Pussycat Dolls, Mary J Blige, etc...), but she particularly became a collaborator of the most sought-after producer of 2006/7...Timbaland! And it is with him that Keri made her debut; in fact, she sang the chorus for his summer 2007 hit "The Way I Are". After the success of that single by Keri and many songs written by her but sung by others, Keri decided to try to build a singing career of her own... well, it's easy to say but not that easy to do, and this girl knows something about it. Keri launched her first single "Energy" in May 2008, but the success did not come immediately; indeed, although the debutant received a warm welcome in the R'n'B community, the mainstream charts were much more indifferent. Keri did not give up and despite the failure of the first single and the ongoing illegal publication of her unfinished songs on the internet, she released two singles simultaneously "Return The Favor" in collaboration with mentor Timbaland and "Turnin' Me On" with the omnipresent Lil Wayne. While the first was completely ignored, the second made American radio stations fall in love. Although the single took some time to become a hit (the album was postponed numerous times), it finally became a hit in America in the early months of 2009. This success allowed Keri to release her album, which debuted at number 4 on the best-selling albums chart.
After such a long wait by the fans, the album does not disappoint expectations. In addition to the three released singles, we find "Get Your Money Up" and "Knock You Down", two club bangers that will surely make their mark in the coming months, but there is also space for ballads like "Make Love" and "Slow Dance"; we are only halfway through the album, and Keri has shown us that she knows how to oscillate between powerful rhythms and R'n'B ballads. In the second part of the album, we find two songs that testify to her collaboration with Timbaland, the pleasant "Intuition" and the decisive "How Does It Feel". Then comes the moving "Alienated", which shows us the more vulnerable side of Keri, as well as in "Where Did He Go", the track that closes the album. There are also the refined "Tell Him The Truth" and the commercial "Change Me", sung together with Akon, who is just one of the guests in Keri's 'perfect world'; speaking of guests, there are many in this album, all big names in the R'n'B scene, Kanye West, Ne-Yo, Keyshia Cole, Trina, Lil Wayne.
The best track on the album? For me, it is precisely the song chosen as the first single, "Energy", a song that moves but at the same time energizes due to its irresistible beat. The same goes for the new single "Knock You Down", which is already a hit in America; Keri's expressive voice is supported by rhythms that pulse at full force, truly music to the ears.
