LA RECENSIONE

Tokyo Revengers is a 2017 manga written and illustrated by Ken Wakui, serialized by Kōdansha in Weekly Shōnen Magazine starting from March 1, 2017. The Italian version is published by Edizioni BD under the J-Pop label starting from February 3, 2021. Let's address the elephant in the room, I only know the Avengers, or what's that nonsense of Tokyo Ghoul? After receiving a flood of insults, Tokyo Ghoul is still the most complete manga, apart from that crappy anime series. But we're not here to talk about that, let's turn the page and open a new chapter. This manga doesn't feature the usual variant found in every manga, namely fantasy. Instead, it stands out with a metaphorical science fiction variant. After receiving an anime series in 2021 with stiff animations, Tokyo Revengers was awarded the best manga of 2021. WHAT???? IT'S NOT AOT? NNNNNnno. It's Tokyo Revengers! Eheh. Did I scare you? Tokyo Revengers has simple and realistic fight animations that don't use fantasy swords or magic, and it's precisely for being inspired by various Japanese legends for the names of the outlaw gangs in the manga, just like manga from the '50s. To which, in fact, Tokyo Revengers aspires, but this work aims higher, hence the unique science fiction variant. After receiving a foreclosure notice, a job termination, the news that his high school girlfriend died in a car accident, the very one who had left him, and additionally, being pushed under a train. Takemichi is teleported back in time to when he was a kid. He receives another lesson from a more significant gang, along with his friends, and goes to wash his face. There's where he meets his past girlfriend, and then shakes hands with her younger brother. And he finds himself in the future in a hospital, the brother says that Tamekichi was pushed, and he caught him. Then he lost consciousness, and thus explains to Takemichi through the forecast left by himself in the past, that Takemichi has the power of THE HANDSHAKE. Ok, sorry, he can actually save someone dear by shaking their hand. Takemichi goes back with little information, precious nonetheless, considering the girl's brother has become a cop like his father. And he sets to work to become the no. 1 gangster in Japan. To stop the bloodshed, he must spill a lot of it, many times, in this manga, people lose their lives. And not always can you go back with a handshake since Takemichi can only go back, but going forward both in the past and the future. To save one person, others die. We're reaching the climax of the manga. I recommend a warm read! I made a joke... 😂 ❤
