Kelley Stoltz is from Detroit, essentially a good guy, and he swings a lot. He lets his sick mind sway, hanging onto a musical rope and balancing between a conservative approach, time-tested, and a more experimental one, infused with wine and low audio fidelity. In this continuous wavering between Beatles and John Frusciante, Rolling Stones and Radiohead, his latest small creation comes to life.

Stoltz has previously released three albums: The Past Was Faster in 1999, Antique Glow in 2003, and Croc O Dials also in 2003 (a remake of an Echo And The Bunnymen album titled Crocodiles). Sub Pop (in 2006) will release his fourth LP and here comes a sort of small "calm-the-soul-from-acute-alternativeness" pill: The Sun Comes Through EP, 5 tracks, all to be listened to strictly with headphones (earcups well covered, no beach earphones), to not miss any of the many small sound experiments that envelop the piano scales and blues guitar riffs.

Little alienating splinters: the direct recording of a local band's trumpet playing, reverberations, labyrinthine loops, etcetera etcetera etcetera. But also much "classicism," we said, so besides the megaphoned voice, there is an essence and minimalism that, while resting on just a couple of instruments and four chords (not to mention two...), succeeds in its apparent simplicity to convince. The first track, the one that gives the album its title, could please many Radiohead fans, combining a hypnotic piano melody with an equally psychedelic electronic base. Let's Go Out Tonight resumes the very "guy and dolls" jukebox rock'n'roll so dear to Elvis, while Where You're Young fully reflects what Ryan Adams has been trying in vain "to be" for years now. A dynamic country, where a pleasant jazz touch peeks through.

Many sonic territories are covered for an EP that flows pleasantly, quickly, and never bores.
What more do you want from life? The first one who thinks "Un Lucano" will be reported!

Tracklist and Lyrics

01   The Sun Comes Through (04:37)

The river is the holy ghost
Aquatic master of the theory of flow
And well well, when my well had gone dry
Hey then you come along
And lift a cup up to my teary eye
Ain't it a shame how the rain got stuck up in the willow tree?
And it never found it's way on down to me

I think of a scenario of you and the stereo
And now the sun pours through the window to the right
And now the sun pours through the window and it's alright
Hey now the sun comes through the window and it's alright

Ain't it a shame how the rain got stuck up in the willow tree?
And it never found it's way on down to me
You come at me in stereo
I took you in and let her go
And now the sun comes through the window to the right
Hey now the sun comes through the window and it's alright (x3)
