The Profile

The Keith Jarrett Trio—Keith Jarrett (piano), Gary Peacock (double bass), and Jack DeJohnette (drums)—is widely known as the Standards Trio. Formed in 1983 to explore the Great American Songbook, the group recorded extensively for ECM and performed worldwide until 2014.

Members: Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock, Jack DeJohnette. Primary label: ECM Records. Debut 1983 sessions produced Standards, Vol. 1, Standards, Vol. 2, and Changes. Standards Live was recorded July 2, 1985 at the Palais de Congrès (Paris) for ECM.

Two reviews celebrate the Keith Jarrett Trio’s seamless interplay, elegant ECM sound, and inspired standards (from Monk to “Stella by Starlight”). One calls My Foolish Heart a state-of-grace live treasure, noting Jarrett’s surprising ragtime detours. Another lauds Standards Live for orchestral richness from a minimalist trio. A dissenting report from Umbria Jazz 2007 criticizes Jarrett’s behavior and a lackluster performance.
