Second CD (and so far the last) from one of the most enigmatic artists of the late millennium. He appeared out of nowhere in 1996 with the beautiful "I Am ( )", returned in 1998 with this "Shiny" and then disappeared again into the void from which he came.
"Shiny" is undoubtedly a nice album, yet compared to the first one (which doesn't have a single wrong track), it has several dips in style, especially in the middle part. It remains an album worth having because it has some really beautiful tracks: starting with the fast rock single "You Don't Know Me", the opening track "I'm Disconnecting" with the artist's magnetic and mysterious vocals over well-crafted guitar riffs, the compelling and splendid "Crosses", the beautiful and captivating chorus of "Everything Is A Circle", the sweet and melancholic "Regret" and finally the breathtaking cover of "Sound Of Silence" (by Simon & Garfunkel) reconstructed with Ké's splendid vocals that caress a modern electronic sound... the most successful piece of the album, a truly wonderful cover that radically changes but does not distort the original, giving it a more modern and equally splendid charm. Just this piece alone is worth the entire CD, managing to raise the level that had dipped with some tracks in the middle.
It's a real shame that Ké (born Kevin Grivois), after this (really good) work, left the music scene; one would have expected something else beautiful and equally fascinating after these twenty songs from the two albums.
Only one word to describe this shooting star that brightly illuminated the Pop-Rock music scene of the '90s, but all too briefly: MYSTERY...
