With their second album "Empire" (from 2006), Kasabian succeeded in the difficult task of reinforcing the positive impression they made with their self-titled debut four years ago.

"Empire" is indeed a good album, less "hallucinogenic" than the debut but more linear and direct, composed of valid and interesting tracks that are well-played and interpreted.

In September 2007, at the end of the promotional tour for "Empire", Kasabian decided to release an E.P. containing only two new tracks, this "Fast Fuse". One of them, the title track, will also be included in their new album, which has just been completed and is scheduled for release within four to five months. The track can therefore be considered an interesting harbinger for understanding the sound that will be presented in the upcoming work; "Fast Fuse" is, in fact, a remarkable single. Zeppelin-esque guitars to the core, rhythm changes, and the usual hypnotic and captivating vocal line by Tom Meighan form the backbone of a compelling and unique piece in the discography of Pizzorno and company; the reference song is undoubtedly "Club Foot", but here, unlike the splendid opener of "Kasabian", the focus is more on instrumental aggression than on the atmosphere and groove of the track.

"Thick As Thieves", on the other hand, while not matching the excellent title track, is based on an acoustic melodic part for guitar and voice alone; well-written and well-played, it seems inspired by the more basic works of the Beatles or certain b-sides of Oasis from the "Definitely Maybe"/"(What's The Story) Morning Glory?" era, yet remains original and interesting.

This "Fast Fuse" is a good appetizer to whet the appetite for the full return of Kasabian on disc.

A return that, at this point, becomes ever more intriguing.
