Born to be on a stage: A complete artist - Justin from Memphis
In this, my first (and hopefully appreciated by you users) write-up, I want to propose the talent (which goes beyond music, as he is also a great actor) of Justin Timberlake: pure talent, crystalline talent, talent that pours through every listen of his works. But those who have had the honor of listening to the former N'Sync member's previous works already know this.
“Future Sex/Love Sound” arrives at a distance of three years from the splendid “Justified” which boasted the collaboration of the Neptunes, a duo of U.S.A. based music producers recognizable in the persons of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo. This latest work by Justin is a more challenging pop, perhaps more incisive but surely more mature than the previous albums by the Memphis artist. Certainly, it would have been easier to repeat the easier sound of "Justified," but Justin knows what he wants and, by nurturing his immense talent (refining his skills as a pianist, guitarist, and clearly vocal abilities), he gives us an album with a hi-tech sound that is a must... to be listened to repeatedly on our mp3s.
Justin produces an irresistible album, very edgy and tremendously fascinating: you can notice the influence of Timbaland which materializes in songs more funk, hip-hop, and r&b always with the thread of international pop. Production made by Timbaland, you say? Well, it's stratospheric, magnificent with melodies that fit perfectly with Justin's sexy-voice. Justin's voice has improved, though I don't mean that in his previous works and masterpieces our Memphis boy didn't have the evident vocal qualities that made him a celebrated star, but we know everything is perfectible and here we are very close to it all.
Of surely excellent level is the lead single "Sexy Back", a track that I've danced and re-danced like crazy in the DJ's remixes in clubs, which creeps into your head with its tremendously unstoppable groove. Other tracks worthy of mention are the lush “My Love” and “LoveStoned/I Think She Knows Interlude” which is a track that features a bipartite: from irresistible funk it shifts to a melancholy profile. I remind you for those who want to purchase the album that "Future Sex / Love Sounds" boasts excellent collaborations; among which the one with Benjamin Wright shines, splendidly interacting with Justin in the slow of "Until the End of Time"; and the one with Nelly Furtado in “Crowd Control”. Other collaborations include those with Mario in "Lose Your Way" and with India Arie (a very talented American soul singer) in "Nocturn". Naturally, a track-by-track would be tedious, I have tried in this review to provide some useful information for the few who have not yet listened to the album.
In conclusion, sure Timberlake is good, and this cannot be denied, but for many things, the impression I have is that it seems he reaps what others before him have sown like the myth Michael Jackson or Prince, in the sense that maybe what he does isn't exactly original, but this doesn't take away from the fact that this album is a confirmation of what has quickly turned into a complete artist.
