LA RECENSIONE

The first strictly singer-songwriter work of Roberto Juri Camisasca, since The Window Inside was more progressive, The Carmel of Echt reveals itself as a magnificent concept album about the human condition.

Absolutely pop arrangements with touches of chart-topping rock instead accompany engaging texts imbued with spirituality.

It opens with the title song, the drama of Edith Stein, who, despite hiding in Holland, specifically in the Carmel of Echt, was nevertheless captured by the Nazis and executed at Auschwitz. Emotion and dismay at the phrase "the Jews are not men." Reproposed by his lifelong friend Franco Battiato in 2008 in his "Fleurs 2," as well as The Music Dies, from 1975.

White Clouds is chilling, especially when singing "I am in the world but not of the world," which is one of the cornerstones of Gurdjeff's thought. Beautiful Revolution now!, where at a certain point, Silvio Pozzoli's choirs come in. The Cry of the Gods and Prime Mover can be defined as opposite but complementary, as the former insists on man's detachment from nature, while the latter explains the connection between Man and the Cosmos.

The Ship of the Eternal Talisman is one of the best, practically explaining the rules of Buddhist meditation practiced among others by Franco Battiato. Let go of thoughts and do not be their prisoner.

Curve of the Sky affects me the least, but it is still a good track by the author's standards. The last two are amazing. The Journey of Humans and The Waters of Siloe immediately make me think of "Café de la Paix," especially the former. Battiato will win two years later the award for best album of 1993, Camisasca did not receive any recognition, but we give it to him now by placing 5 stars on this album.

For a discographic return, one will have to wait eight long years.
