THE REVIEW

The market sees the return of one of the most important AOR - Hard Rock bands in history, Journey, with this excellent "Revelations"!
Before the album's release, there was a lineup change: the singer Jeff Scott Soto left the band just one year after joining, and he was replaced by the unknown singer Arnel Pineda.
The result is a magnificent album, with no song below average, and with excellent performances by all members.

The songs on the album can be grouped into two categories: melodic Hard Rock tracks and splendid ballads.

Among the Hard Rock tracks, the opener "Never Walk Away" is very beautiful, immediately showcasing Pineda's great potential, the energetic and sunny "Change For The Better", but most notably the dreamy "Wildest Dream", which more than any other highlights the qualities of each musician, thanks to an excellent guitar solo by Neal Schon and a finale with tough drum rolls and swirling piano scales.

But there are also sublime ballads, like "Faith In The Heartland" (already present on Generation), "After All These Years", chosen as a single, "Like A Sunshower" (one of those classic songs to listen to at sunset...) and the moving "Turn Down The World Tonight", the best ballad of the album which reaches incredible emotional peaks.

The best song of the album is "The Journey (Revelation)", which does not belong to any of the aforementioned categories. The track consists of a beautiful guitar solo by Schon, which alternates considerable virtuosity and technique with various emotions: unease, but at the same time confidence, even passing through emotion...

Revelation also contains a second album, which I won't review because it's just a greatest hits compilation made for the occasion.

In summary, this is a magnificent album, which can only be given full marks, especially when considering the advanced age of the musicians. I don't think it's something you see every day to create an album like Revelation at 60 years old...

Journey

Journey is an American rock band associated with AOR/arena rock, widely known for its 1980s commercial peak and big radio staples such as “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Open Arms,” and “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).” Reviews highlight key lineup eras (Steve Perry, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory, Steve Smith) and emphasize the band’s shift from earlier prog/jazz-rock leanings to a more melodic, chart-focused sound.
