After the great success of The Soul Sessions, the first work by the Devon singer, here comes Mind Body & Soul, an intense album where, once again, Joss Stone delivers an unforgettable voice, a voice that gives chills, enough to make all the pop princesses envious.
The album, which consists of fourteen tracks, or rather fifteen considering the bonus track, was entirely written by the singer, who for the creation of this album, collaborated with numerous guest stars, such as: Beth Gibbons of Portishead, Lamont Dozier, Nile Rodgers, Angie Stone, and ?uestlove of The Roots.
If in her first work the English singer had already demonstrated great professionalism despite her age (she has not yet turned eighteen), this second album shows that little Joss is not the usual throwaway pop lolita but on the contrary, a great singer capable of offering very good original material. Once again the core of the production remains love, that light, carefree love but also painful and suffering, that love lived and filtered through the soul of a very young singer, who simply sings: "How the time flies, when you're near me, get those butterflies inside, and I'll be where the stars shine, where the birds fly, 'til the next time you're mine".
Mind Body & Soul is a good album, a record where standout songs include: "You Had Me", the first single released, in which Stone laments a relationship gone wrong; "Spoiled" where she admits to being strongly attracted to a boy, whose touch causes a strong sensation in her, similar to the feeling of being overwhelmed and grounded.
Also noteworthy are: "Security", in which a protective singer becomes a safe harbor for the man she loves, lost and anguished in his problems; but also "Don't Know How", "Killing Time", and "Sleep Like A Child", which are all listened to in one breath for the warm and enveloping voice of this small musical phenomenon.
In a certain sense, Joss Stone's career seems to truly begin with this work, as the words and feelings stem from her head, her body, and her soul.
