LA RECENSIONE

I was about to give a rating after the first viewing.
It would have been one star, at most two.
I thought "useless film, part of the sci-fi cinema trend all about cinematography and special effects, absent plot or simply connective tissue for the action scenes.
A kind of Star Wars with lots of drones and lots of lightsabers, but nothing to say."

Except there are no lightsabers, which if we want is even worse.

But I read some cautiously optimistic reviews, suggesting that - among the infinite plot holes - there might actually be something worth telling.
And I forced myself to watch it again.
Not two, but four times in total.
On the second viewing, I realized that - yes - there was something to ponder.

On the third viewing, I thought that if I wanted, I could even recount the plot.
On the fourth, I decided that there is no plot hole.
Or at least I don't see any.
The plot is self-coherent.

Now, I needed four viewings because I'm slow.
Someone might get it with two.
But it's worth it.

I won't tell you anything about the plot. For obvious reasons.

I had the fourth and final viewing in English; and I was consequently able to appreciate the Italian dubbing much more, by comparison.
My compliments especially to Sally's dubber, and the dubbing director.

Initially dismissed as a typical special effects-driven sci-fi film, Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion proved to have a coherent and thought-provoking plot after multiple viewings. The reviewer highlights the film's depth and praises the Italian dubbing, especially the voice acting of the character Sally. The film is recommended for those patient enough to watch it more than once.
