Joseph Arthur is a singer-songwriter from Ohio, who has made New York his second home and was discovered by Peter Gabriel (who, along with Brian Eno, appears on some tracks of his debut album "Big City Secrets"). Although he is unknown to most, his songs have been used in various contexts: films ("American Pie 3," "Shrek 2," "Hell's Kitchen," for which he wrote the entire soundtrack), TV shows ("Dawson's Creek," "The O.C."), and even advertisements (Davidoff commercial..."I picture you in the sun"...).
He is currently on tour with Wilco, and soon will be with R.E.M., and in the past has been the opening act for Ben Harper, Coldplay, and Gomez (with whom he wrote a song, never released). "Come To Where I'm From," his second album, was released in 2000, featuring production by T-Bone Burnett (curator of the soundtrack for "O Brother, Where Art Thou?") and is a jewel of rare beauty in the contemporary music scene.
Of the various aspects and the multiple nuances of the album, I would like to highlight just three: Joseph's ability to write lyrics that are true poems, his husky voice that perfectly suits beautiful melodies, and the highly experimental production that, while keeping acoustic instruments in the foreground, does not shy away from sound solutions never heard before.
This is my first review, hope you liked it!!!
