THE REVIEW

A classical guitar and a microphone. An open tuning to convey warmth. A subtle echo effect on the microphone and a deliberately homemade recording.

Simplicity.

In our nature resumes the thread interrupted by the Swedish singer-songwriter with Veneer: singer-songwriter linearity and emotions molded on six nylon strings. Feeble, insecure, almost scared voice, yet at the same time engaging and warm, vibrant and trembling. Latin-folk rhythms woven on the oak wood, shaped but not chiseled. Rhythms that bounce as if inside an imaginary cube with walls of flamenco, classical guitar, and folk. Rhythms. Those who listened to Veneer have felt these sensations, the same are repeated in "In our nature". Perhaps too similar to the previous one, perhaps too limited in duration, in any case remarkable. It reveals the talent, conveys emotions. The core of José González's music is this: conveying feelings, beats, tales translated into lines and dots according to a Morse alphabet molded on/by his guitar. He succeeds both when he reinterprets "Teardrop" by Massive Attack (the original is beautiful and polished anew in this version) and in the chant of the title track.

The lyrics, never trivial, are the bond between heart and guitar, between melody and soul, full of that melancholic disillusionment experienced when trying to glimpse the dawn in the icy winters of the northern lands, without success.

Summary by Bot

José González's album 'In Our Nature' continues the intimate, emotionally charged style of his previous work Veneer. The music centers on simple classical guitar arrangements paired with a soft, trembling voice. The album skillfully blends folk and Latin rhythms while offering heartfelt lyrics full of melancholy. Notably, González gives a fresh, warm rendition of Massive Attack's 'Teardrop.' Though similar to its predecessor, the album showcases González's talent for conveying deep emotions.

01   How Low (02:40)

02   Down the Line (03:10)

I see problems down the line
I know that I’m right.
There was a dirt upon your hands
doing the same mistake twice
making the same mistake twice

Come on over and be so caught up
its not about compromising.

I see problems down the line
I know that I’m right
I see darkness down the line
I know its hard to fight.
There was a dirt upon your hands
doing the same mistake twice
making the same mistake twice.

Come on over
be so caught up its all about compromise.

I see problems down the line
I know that I’m right.

Don’t let the darkness eat you up (8x)

Nine nights of matter
Black flowers blossom
Feathers on my breath
Teardrop on the fire of a confession
Feathers on my breath
Black flowers blossom
Feathers on my breath

Water is my eye
Most faithful mirror
Feathers on my breath
Teardrop on the fire of a confession
Feathers on my breath
Most faithful mirror
Feathers on my breath

Teardrop on the fire
Feathers on my breath
