Jonathan Demme (1944–2017) was an American film director, producer and screenwriter, best known for The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, and concert/music documentaries such as Stop Making Sense and Neil Young Journeys.

Won the Academy Award for Best Director for The Silence of the Lambs (1992). Directed feature films and music documentaries; passed away in April 2017.
