This time I'm presenting a band from the Savona area, it has become a habit of mine. They're called JollyRoger and, along with the Eazy Skankers, they represent the best of the underground scene in the province, in my opinion. The CD I intend to review is called Anomalia and I must admit it's a bit dated; it dates back to 2003. You might say, why the hell are you reviewing a 3-year-old CD, but I'll tell you that it represents their latest release. From that moment on, the band hasn't practically had time to devote to recording new tracks, even though the production has remained constant and increasingly interesting (just think, in fact, that last year, with the single Il Tuo Concetto, they won SanremoRock). But let's not dwell on the triumphs of this band and focus instead on this first raw demo, the only tangible proof (not counting the songs posted online) of their talent.

The mini album begins with the enticing and energetic Crash Test, beautiful for its blend of aggressiveness and melody. It is followed by a calmer distorted ballad, Sono Qui, introduced with a whistle by the singer. Also very beautiful, although in my opinion, it owes a little to Afterhours and Verdena. The third track is called Vuoto A Rendere, and I believe it represents the peak of the album, along with the following Parce Que. A pair of truly high-level songs, very beautiful, both in terms of catchiness and musical creativity. Finally, to conclude, we have Frame, the only weak piece, which in my opinion represents nothing more than a small misstep.

This is a band with great potential, and they have already proven they know how to use it (I've already mentioned they won SanRemo Rock in 2005, but they've also played with Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti, performed at the BCC this year, etc.). I hope for their next release, because I've already heard some of the new songs, such as the cover of Via Del Campo by De André, or the beautiful INHV, and they are even better than what I've tried to describe above.

What else can I say, if you want to listen to some of the songs, here is their website www.jollyrogersite. it and here is their space www.myspace.com/jollyrogerox.
