I'm sending my first review of what, for me, is one of the greatest Blues Albums in history.
I won't bore you with details about the life/history of the great Bluesman (that's what Wikipedia is for), here we only need to say that this album contains the very essence of original Blues, few instruments, free and hypnotic rhythm, Hooker at the peak of his vocal abilities (if it makes sense for his Talking Blues), light-years away from the "sparkling Blues" of B.B. King, etc.
When I listen to it at night, it feels like I'm in a Mississippi cotton field watching the pickers return home in the evening to get drunk, smoke, and make love... or in Chicago sitting outside a bar full of "proper" ladies...
Better than all the various artist compilations.

01 I'm In The Mood (02:43)
I'm In The Mood (Version 1)
by John Lee Hooker Bernard Bessman
recording of 1959
from The Vee Jay Years 1955-1964 (Charly 82333-1754-2) & Vee Jay No. 1069,
I'm in the mood baby, I'm in the mood for love
I'm in the mood baby, I'm in the mood for love
I'm in the mood, I'm in the mood, baby, I'm in the mood for love
I said night time is the right time, to be with the one you love
You know when night come baby, God know, you're so far away
I'm in the mood, I'm in the mood baby, I'm in the mood for love
I'm in the mood, in the mood, baby, in the mood for love
I said yes, my mama told me, to leave that girl alone
But my mama didn't know, God know, girl was puttin' down
I'm in the mood, I'm in the mood baby, in the mood for love
I'm in the mood, I'm in the mood, baby, in the mood for love
09 The Waterfront (05:22)
I cover the waterfront, watchin' the ship go by
I could see, everybody's baby, but I couldn't see mine
I could see, the ships pullin' in, to the harbor
I could see the people, meetin' their loved one
Shakin' hand, I sat there,
so all alone, coverin' the waterfront
And after a while, all the people,
left the harbor, and headed for their destination
All the ships, left the harbor,
and headed for their next destination
I sat there, coverin' the waterfront
And after a while, I looked down the ocean,
as far as I could see, in the fog, I saw a ship
It headed, this way, comin' out the foam
It must be my baby, comin' down
And after a while, the ship pulled into the harbor,
rollin' slow, so cripple
And my baby, stepped off board
I was still, coverin' the waterfront
Said "Johnny, our ship had trouble, with the fog
And that's why we're so late, so late
Comin' home, comin' down'
