Consistent, dry, direct songs without unnecessary frills, this is American Rock that the great John (class of '52) has always created. It's full of stories to tell and he is an Artist with a capital A with character, and in this splendid album, you can definitely see it.... you sure can!
Warm sounds blended with country and folk shine in elegant ballads like "Hangin' Round Here", "My Old Friend", "Something Broken", "Rock Of Your Love", "Come Home To You" (gentle and profound like few songs can be), all have the same roots.
Punchy, compressed, and adrenaline-filled are "Everybody Went Low" and "All The Lillacs In Ohio". What more could you ask for? Great command of the instrument, beautiful and heartfelt lyrics, simply a MAGNIFICENT voice!
"The Tiki Bar Is Open", which gives the title to this splendid album, oozes Delta sound from every pore, and if during the listen you spot an Asian beauty bringing you a drink with a little umbrella, say nothing, wink, and accept it.
P.S.: Highly recommended from the same author (to stay in the most recent period) "Crossing Muddy Waters" and "Master Of Disaster".
