LA RECENSIONE

Introducing NIGHT CALLS! An album, unique... dirty at times... like real things.

Year 1991, with this release Joe Cocker wants to take on the world. I classify it as the last majestic work, after this the subsequent albums seemed more like commercial works. Not that they're not good and enjoyable to listen to. There are two versions of this album, with different tracks included. But today, I want to talk about both.

Let's start with "Feels like forever" a very beautiful love song... great sounds... "I can hear the river" an excellent track to listen to multiple times, a unique sound. "Now that the magic is gone" a classic of John Miles rearranged and sung by Joe, great result where Joe gives his best. "Unchain my heart" included in this album despite being slightly older (90's version) always exciting! "Night Calls" the song that gives the album its title, perfect for an evening at the pub, while thinking about nothing. "There's storm is coming" an amazing rearranged track, wonderful, with a Joe, angry! "Can't find my way home" excellent cover of Traffic, stunning in the rearrangement and singing. "Don't let the sun go down on me" beautiful cover from Elton John, improved and honestly much more fitting. "When the night comes" also one of his old tracks included in the album, remembering that on the guitar was Brian Adams. "Five Women" track written by Prince, and very well assimilated. Sung with a distinctive sound. "Love is alive" a cover done by everyone now, but in 1991, it was a huge success... even if it was a cover! So strong!
"Please no more" the ballad of the album, a stunning song about feelings. "Out of the rain" also a cover, wonderful... rearranged... catchy. "You've got to hide your love away" taken from the Beatles and rearranged superbly in my opinion, knowing the original, the track has taken a much more complex and sinuous form. Unique!!! "When a woman cries" a stunning track, even if it reminds too much of a woman's suffering. "Little bit of love" great bass and percussion.. a little more than a 3-minute song that still offers excellent work. "Not too young to die of a broken heart" the last track, well... it brings together... the best!

In short, an album.. angry... full of good feelings.. but declared in a Cockerian way. Unique... wonderful, an album to rave about!! Those who like the Joe of "9 ½ Weeks" will certainly love this album.
