We are in the year 1984, simultaneously worldwide, "Civilized Man" the ninth official album by Joe Cocker is released.
The album flows in an incredible way, especially on rainy days. Inside, you can find many ballads. ""Long drag off a cigarette"", beautiful and unique. I don't want to overlook other wonderful tracks like "Civilized Man" which gives the album its name and launches a roaring sound. The remaining tracks "Come on in", "Tempted", "I love the night", "Hold On", "There goes my baby" are also excellent songs but not as noteworthy.
There's still "A girl like you" which gives a slight jolt of movement. Also, "Crazy in love" is a wonderful ballad... crazy in love, it says it all. The finale with "Even a fool would let go"... is amazing, an unforgettable track. A song that truly deserves the entire album.
This album, wants to be a small rebirth. Perhaps the official one, but not yet very famous. Joe Cocker is coming back... and you can feel it!
Long live the 80s, long live 1984, a great year, my year!
Tracklist and Lyrics
01 Civilized Man (03:55)
You made me need you
need you so bad
Fool to believe you. you made me so mad
oh yeah
Double cross me once
never cross me again
And now you're runnin' round lookin' for some sympathy
When you know as well as I that we're history.
You're lucky - I'm a civilized man
You're so lucky - I'm a civilized man
oh yeah
a civilized man.
A poison arrow right from the start
Went down to zero
you went for my heart
oh yeah.
Usin' hoodoo voodoo to start the fire again
Now you asked me to forget all you put me thru
When you know as well as I you got it comin' to you.
Now you're lucky - I'm a civilized man. . . .
Using hoodoo voodoo to start the fire again.
Now you're runnin' round lookin' for some sympathy
When you know as well as I that we are history.
Oh
you're lucky - I'm a civilized man . . .
Oh
you're lucky - I'm a civilized man . . .
You're so lucky - you've got a civilized man
You're so lucky - you've got a civilized man.
04 Tempted (04:15)
I bought a toothbrush, some toothpaste
A flannel for my face
Pyjamas, a hairbrush
New shoes and a case
I said to my reflection
Let's get out of this place
Past the church and the steeple
The laundry on the hill
Billboards and the buildings
Memories of it still
Keep calling and calling
But forget it all
I know I will
Tempted by the fruit of another
Tempted but the truth is discovered
What's been going on
Now that you have gone
There's no other
Tempted by the fruit of another
Tempted but the truth is discovered
I'm at the car park, the airport
The baggage carousel
The people keep on crowding
I'm wishing I was well
I said it's no occasion
It's no story I could tell
At my bedside empty pocket
A foot without a sock
Your body gets much closer
I fumble for the clock
Alarmed by the seduction
I wish that it would stop
I bought a novel, some perfume
A fortune all for you
But it's not my conscience
That hates to be untrue
I asked of my reflection
Tell me what is there to do
