It seems really strange to me that no one has written any review yet about the great Jimmy Eat World. Anyway, I'll take it upon myself to start with a review of their masterpiece: Clarity.
Released in 1999, Clarity presents itself as a melodic rock album of great depth, with lyrics definitely on par with the music and a significant emotional impact... is it an emo album? Let's say yes.
The opening Table For Glasses starts slow and melancholic, like much of the rest of the album, giving way in the second track to the boldness of Lucky Denver Mint., an absolutely fantastic track... surely one of the many peaks of this work by the guys from Mesa (Arizona).
The voice of singer Jim Adkins strongly evokes adolescence and the inevitable sentimental sufferings for the lost loves of that time.
Clarity is a rock album with extraordinary melodic openings and perfectly fitting choruses, an album that should not be missing from any respectable record collection... perhaps along with Something To Write Home About by The Get Up Kids, the highest peak of '90s emo-rock.
There's no point in citing the best tracks because I would have to list the entire tracklist, but if I really had to choose, I would opt for the poignant A Sunday, the ethereal For Me This Is Heaven, and the energetic Clarity.
What else can I say? Well, to those who love bands such as The Get Up Kids and The Juliana Theory, I can only recommend rushing to grab this enormous album.
Generational!!!
