For a sixteen-year-old today, going back to listen to the first (and last) four albums of the Jimi Hendrix Experience (it was a band, did you know?) can be a real drag. Crappy recordings, four tracks, and a sound that, they say, little remains of nowadays certainly don't help a kid who wants to enter the rock knowledge Olympus to fully appreciate the work of the Seattle God. So, what to do? Simple, purchase this collection of all the classic hits of James Marshall Hendrix and his band, including the crazy drummer Mitch Mitchell.
In a single CD, as if it were a Panini football sticker album, are collected "The Wind Cries Mary", "Foxy Lady", "Hey Joe" etc., all songs that alone are worth 50 years of rock and roll. It's hard (very hard) to choose the best tracks, but the psychedelic ballads "The Wind Cries Mary" and "Little Wing" are truly great works, "Crosstown Traffic", "Red House", "Castle Made of Sand" and "Manic Depression" have indestructible energy, "Foxy Lady" is as sexy as Jessica Alba and "Fire" is a masterpiece, still very modern today.
Without Jimi Hendrix, people like the much-loved Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lenny Kravitz, Rage Against the Machine, and many other champions of so-called funk(y)rock would be washing car windows in the middle of Naples today. The guitar technique, the innovative leaps in both language and music make him unparalleled even today, far removed from guitarists/virtuosos/puppets like Satriani or Vai. Jimi Rules. Peace!
