"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is an anthem to sexual anarchy! A wonderful thing! Because sex, my dear friends, is the most beautiful and natural thing that exists! It's not a sin! It's not scandalous! It's not outrageous! And it's not something frivolous (as they want us to believe)! These are conformist bullshit spewed by the church and the horrible facade of puritanism that has stained our population for hundreds of years! So damn moralism! This film is an anthem to sexuality from every perspective!
Heterosexuals, homosexuals, lesbians, transsexuals, bisexuals, and more! Sex seen as an art form in its many varied forms! All without any church moralism! Rather, we find ourselves facing a true denunciation of the Puritan scheme imposed on us by the church... the film indeed starts right with the shot of a beautiful little church hosting the marriage of an equally chaste and "sinless" couple (oh please!), attended by the protagonists of our story, two lovebirds dazed by ecclesiastical innocence and chastity, two decent people who swear eternal love with a nice little song that will lead them towards a picture-perfect future! What can be done to convince this chaste couple that life also consists of wild sex and unfettered erotic fantasies? Probably nothing! Because no human being in the film (a portrait of an era of faux-moralists) is able to live an openly transgressive life, but inside they are genuine pigs as nature intended (as the Americans demonstrate behind the four walls of their homes, where they are the first perverts!, while publicly they are scandalized by a bare breast on TV!!) but they still don’t know it!.... It would take mentally more open and advanced aliens than us to lead humanity towards the world of free and sinless sex! Luckily for our young protagonists, on a rainy night, after a car breakdown, they seek help from the inhabitants of a nearby seemingly normal villa but... to their misfortune (and their fortune), it is inhabited by aliens from the planet "Bisesso".... And so suddenly, the chaste life of the picture-perfect couple is unexpectedly led into the world of the wildest eros!
Directly from the galaxy "Transylvania," here comes the owner of the villa... a wild transsexual full of sex and rock! It's the beginning of the most beautiful erotic nightmare in the history of cinema! The interpretation of Tim Curry was so formidable and charismatic that it will remain in the collective imagination of the global population for a lifetime!, it is impossible today to reinterpret such a character with the same levels of acting... with today's acting scene it’s impossible! These are things that happen only once (like Marlon Brando in "The Godfather"). His way of acting encapsulates the entire world of sex and its various facets! An alien who knows no boundaries of pleasure, knows no taboos, and makes sexual fun his only source of life! His earthly visit is due to the creation (Frankenstein style) of "Rocky," that is... the perfect lover! A muscular blond man ready to satisfy his inexhaustible erotic fantasies.... in this atmosphere of total anarchy, there is no room for decent couples... so the transformation of the two unfortunate lovebirds into wild sex machines is inevitable! First, they are seduced and deflowered by the legendary Curry in a memorable sequence in which our trans seduces her first and then him using the same approach technique (the girl and the boy are both lying in their bed waiting for their respective partner... Tim Curry slips under the covers dressed first as him and then as her, and once unmasked it’s impossible to resist him...) Epical!!!! Then at the end of the evening, they will all find themselves in garters in a sort of bisexual orgy in a pool!, a masterpiece!
A film full of quotes (mostly Frankenstein!, but also King Kong, Dracula, and several horrors), a revolutionary mix of surreal comedy, horror, musical numbers, and eroticism.... excellent direction and cutting-edge filming techniques (beautiful shots and camera inventions that manage to highlight that sense of anarchy that hovers throughout the film). The actors (although no one on the level of the protagonist) are perfect in their roles, notable is Susan Sarandon's performance as the chaste girlfriend slowly turning into a shameless slut! Original and fun dance choreographies, engaging rock songs from the '70s (that stick to you and never come off!), and musical numbers of high interpretative level, especially those performed by Tim Curry in the final songs, where the mystical/sexual delirium reaches its peak!
A revolutionary film for its time and still very relevant today, which is credited with having revolutionized the canons of the musical in an original and even courageous way (for the time)... a film that as the DVD cover says "will continue to be shown in theaters for another 25 years"! And I'll be proud to take my kids to see it!!!
