Sitting in front of the sea, the sand and the sea, a perpetual movement, the waves slap the coast and caress it, leaving in the air a unique scent, a tangible atmosphere, millions of water particles move in the air, a sound that is music, a black and white landscape that disappears from view, all around fog and the moon.
"Silver" is the new EP by JESU, a project by Justin K. Broadrick (ex Napalm Death and Godflesh) following a splendid self-titled album and a previous EP "Heartache".
4 tracks, about 30 minutes of psychedelic electro symphonies, a hypnotic and ethereal sound, an impalpable and enveloping sonic wall, accompanied by a heavily processed but always discreet voice, almost as if not to break the magical atmosphere created by the distorted guitars loaded with feedback, very homogeneous percussion, and the always saturated bass, a conglomerate in which you can discern echoes of Joy Division and Velvet Underground.
The sound is more open compared to the previous work, less claustrophobic but always melancholic and dark, a warmer atmosphere despite a greater use of electronics, a step forward, therefore, or backward, a return to the future.
"Silver" is the opening piece, catchy and evocative, "Star" is the essence of the new sound, a nice guitar riff, good lyrics, and tight rhythm, "Wolves" is in my opinion the best track, slow and paced, exciting and deep, an endless landscape, "Dead Eyes" is instrumental and almost experimental compared to the previous album.
Ultimately, an excellent EP that bodes well for the album to come.
Sometimes not seeing can make you imagine, and imagining can make you dream, and who knows... behind that tree, behind all that fog there might be our dream!
