I experience a subtle pleasure from having my ears bombarded by the post-metal barrages of Jesu. I turn up the volume, I TURN UP THE VOLUME. It feels like visualizing a barrier, a wall of compact sound, a wave with the power to throw me forward and then drag me back. I don't resist, I go where the current takes me. It's so pleasant to lose control, to feel the waves coming, rising with them only to be carried down. This is the effect of Justin's distorted guitar riffs, a sea where the waves are infrequent but very strong.
"Lifeline" is the new EP, released in October by Hydrahead, four new tracks among which the beautiful "Storm Comin' On" stands out. The storm breaks the frequency of the waves, a possible evolutionary path seen behind the gray clouds. A pleasant surprise on vocals, Jarboe. Sounds that reminded me of some things on Neurot, see Battle of Mice. It concludes with "End of the Road", I return to float and let myself be dissolved by Jesu's melancholic path to rock.
"All my life is this escape, all my life is this wave, I slip inside it and start with the whole story, I climb the wall, and aim for life, with all my soul, my friend. Behind me, all the crap slides away."
