This work is the first after ten years of absence from the scene by Jeff Beck. "Who Else" is an instrumental album based on loops and techno rhythms. Jeff displays part of his knowledge with a pentatonic-ethnic-blues-rock mix. Armed with a Stratocaster, Telecaster, and Marshall and accompanied by the technique of Jennifer Batten (in the role of arranger and not a guitar hero!), he presents us noticeably techno-oriented tracks like "What Mama Said", ventures into Arabian scales in "Psycho Sam" or Eastern ones in "Blast From The East", but the gem is the atypical blues of "Brush With The Blues".
Recorded live where our man synthesizes his instrumental skills and every lick becomes a lesson from an old veteran. The "playstation music" effect is annihilated by delicate tracks like the Celtic "Declan" or "Another Place". Nothing epic, but it is still worth listening to this work and then watching some live videos to understand the difference between a plectrum well-driven by a young shredder and a rough "mechanic" hand that uses harmonics, a lever, and tapping to make a guitar "sing"!
