THE REVIEW

That Jason Lytle is a genius we all know, ever since the days of the now-defunct Grandaddy, which we can remember very well with this album: "Yours Truly The Commuter". Jason, with this album, gives us a sense of nostalgia for his former band unmatched, because Jason Lytle is Grandaddy and this album is a new beginning for him.

Lytle brings out 12 tracks spreading them on a veil of synths and majestic echoes, reminiscent of Sparklehorse; but we only need to refer to Grandaddy to understand everything. Echoes, as mentioned above, that, together with Jason's whispered and dusty singing, do nothing but captivate the soul and fill it with desolation; just listen to "I Am A Lost (And The Moment Cannot Last)", "Birds Encouraged Him", "Rollin Home Alone", "You’re Too Gone". But there's also room for instrumental-ambient atmospheres, as in "Furget It"; or even for some sweet waltz ballads, like "This Song Is The Mute Button".

Well, let's say that with "Yours Truly The Commuter" Lytle takes a break, in that mountain cabin drawn on the cover. But he will be back, because "Yours Truly" means "sincerely yours" and "The Commuter" means "the commuter"… So you move to then return, just like commuters.

This is an album, that when listened to in its entirety, all at once, leaves us thoughtful but happy because it manages to touch the depths of the heart, turning it off, and turning it on.
