The Profile

American band formed in Nashville in 1981 by singer Jason Ringenberg with guitarist Warner E. Hodges, bassist Jeff Johnson, and drummer Perry Baggs. Pioneers of cowpunk, they fused country and roots rock with punk energy on releases like Fervor, Lost & Found, and Still Standing, later returning with 2010’s Halcyon Times.

Michael Stipe contributed backing vocals to “Hot Nights In Georgia” and co-wrote “Both Sides Of The Line.” EMI reissued Fervor adding a blistering cover of “Absolutely Sweet Marie.” Their high‑energy covers include Dylan’s “Absolutely Sweet Marie” and the Rolling Stones’ “19th Nervous Breakdown.”

These reviews frame Jason & The Scorchers as Nashville cowpunk trailblazers mixing country twang with punk velocity and rock bite. Fervor sets the stage, while Lost & Found (1985) is hailed as a devastating high point. Still Standing (1986) boasts a killer first side, with some reservations later on. Halcyon Times (2010) wins praise for fresh, full-throttle songwriting and production, proving the spark still burns.
