In this bold album released at the end of last year by the ultra-independent label Neurot Recordings, we find the legendary Neurosis (founders of the label) in collaboration with Jarboe, a member of the legendary Swans. A successful partnership, those familiar with the two groups I have mentioned will already be on alert.

Neurosis, after the great success they achieved in the nineties with their post-hardcore/metal-indus, have engaged in various experimental projects of undeniable value, rightfully and honestly waving the flag of the "dark" fringe in the modern contemporary music scene. Above all, the Tribes Of Neurot project, whose albums are of the greatest interest, are Times of Grace (1999) followed by Adaptation and Survival, (2002), independent works that can also be listened to simultaneously with two synchronized CD players, thus forming a third work... quite groundbreaking!

Definitely more approachable is this Neurosis & Jarboe, where this time we find on a single album the heavy power of Neurosis and the sulphurous atmospheres with strong industrial appeal of the alter-ego Tribes Of Neurot. The strong vocal presence of the talented singer-songwriter Jarboe, dramatic and melancholic, creates a contrast that is the particular merit of this unprecedented duo.

An album of incredible cathartic power and devastating beauty, at times solemn, where the suffocating mysteries of death and religions are expressed in the lyrics. A spiritual musical experience, therefore, to be lived without compromise.

The dark side of New Age?
