"all this karma driving in
well you picked up a handful
i can't remember your name
i always seem to get lost
but i'm always finding trouble
oh, i'm always finding trouble
and the road it fades away
and the road is getting thinner"
Perry Farrell is dead serious, folks. He presents us an album that leaves nothing and no one behind. He reforms his Jane's Addiction after the (very interesting) Porno For Pyros phase and his solo stint, and dives back into the fray. By his side is Dave Navarro, annoyingly in love with himself even after the mess he made with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, him and his thousand pedals. Behind the controls is Bob Ezrin, a true rock music legend.
All of this for a powerful album where nothing is left to chance. Catering to all tastes, from those who still relish "Nothin' Shocking" to those who followed him with the Pornoz.
An album that reeks of the old and the new, ranging from Led Zeppelin to the "cousins" Red Hot Chili Peppers, especially with the song "Just Because," a crossover that makes us smile hearing that distinctive voice of Farrell. The same can be said for the highly rhythmic "The Riches," a song that at times recalls the Pixies of "Surfer Rosa".
A flaw of the album is Navarro's guitar effects, which can occasionally be a bit annoying, almost gratuitous. When he forgets about the pedals and just uses the guitar's distortion, his talents shine, as is the case with track 7, "Wrong Girl," reminiscent of Led Zeppelin.
An album that rocks and rolls incessantly, without realizing it, you find yourself shaking your head up and down in your everyday gestures until your neck starts to ache.
THESE GUYS REALLY ROOOOCK!!!!!!
