THE REVIEW

The sound of Jamiroquai needs no introduction.

Simply put, you either love them or hate them.

The single in question is part of the soundtrack for the movie "Godzilla", from 1998 (a remake of the 1954 film of the same name).

It was the track that introduced me to their music, thanks in part to the fascinating video, which acted a bit like a trailer and a bit like an advertisement for the aforementioned film.

We find ourselves in a cinema where the Godzilla movie is being screened. The monster is walking on the ocean floor, and one of its enormous feet breaks through the screen as if it were a glass pane. Water floods the entire room, and chaos and panic spread quickly. A bit of everything starts coming through the screen, even taxis and helicopters. Amidst this almost apocalyptic scene, the charismatic frontman Jay Kay dances and moves sumptuously over the seats. (Go watch the ending!)

Musically describing the song is difficult since they are the AC/DC of Acid Jazz. It is the most aggressive track of the group, that's for sure.

There are some interesting remixes: "Deeper Underground (The Metro Mix)", a Techno version very faithful to the original, and "Deeper Underground (S-Man Meets Da Northface Killa Dub)", an apt and lively House/Minimal remix that travels through a 9-minute tunnel, rendering the original unrecognizable. One of the single's strong points, in my opinion.

Not recommended for purists of Funk and Acid Jazz.
