It's not an album, but there's so much music that it deserves to be reviewed: 5 stars.
It all started with the birth of the Internet ... pardon ... the Web … in 1994 and when a company that de facto revolutionized our lives came into existence: Netscape. Okay, I'm starting from a bit far back, but one of the first developers of the Unix version (at the time called Mosaic) was one Jamie Zawinski.
Some might remember that when typing the URL “about:mozilla” a red page would appear with a mythical biblical script, but perhaps fewer know that by typing “about:jwz” you would be redirected to Jamie Zawinski's Home Page.
Navigating through his page, one would discover a passionate love for “alternative” music, a passion that good Jamie has turned into a career … an offline one that includes a lot of online technologies.
Having escaped from Netscape when AOL stepped in, Jamie lost his “about:jwz” (now more simply www.jwz.org) but acquired an old building in San Francisco which he transformed into a high-tech venue where live music is played. The venue is called DNA LOUNGE and, without going to the USA, we too can “enjoy it” thanks to an excellent 24/7 audio stream in high quality that also includes the weekly archive.
Moreover, there are dozens of webcams, and, if that's not enough, the possibility to download the software that Jamie developed or collected to manage the entire venue, from video direction to cash registers. Everything is, of course, free and for Linux.
Going back to the music, the genres that play are deep, funky, vocal house, garage, atmospheric soul, urban grooves, psytrance, breaks, industrial, etc., with live performances every evening.
I have to admit I'm a bit envious of the career he's made; I'm still here writing ASP...
Enjoy the listening.
